Main items

Conclusions and actions from the meeting
  1. Blade material: Cu or W. The choice will be made on considerations other than RP.

  2. Blade dimensions: length is already optimised. Thickness should be considered together with details of the particles' trajectories. The study of loss location of particles that have been scattered on the septum blade should be made (Action: ABP). The height of the blade should maybe reviewed in view of matching it to the total vertical beam size (about 14 mm) (Action: ABP and RP).

  3. Shielding material: concrete is perfectly adapted. It has been decided to try a configuration with marble (on the floor) and concrete in the higher part of the shielding). The impact of removing the metallic table replacing it with concrete or marble blocks should be assessed (Action: RP).

  4. Access to the dummy septum should be foreseen on the inside of the tunnel (lower radiation levels). The vertical walls should be asymmetric: thinner on the magnet unit 14 side, thicker on the magnet unit 15 side with a check with numerical simulations (Action: RP). The height of the shielding should be larger than the PS main magnet height, agreeing with SU on the solution to enable the sight required for alignment (Action: ABP to contact SU).

  5. Septum design: the blade should be installed as much upstream as possible. The support will be reviewed assuming that a concrete or marble block will be used to install the alignment system to enable a quick installation while keeping an alignment of about 1 mm. The maximum clearance should be provided for beam aperture. As soon as a realistic design is available it should be studied in terms of beam impedance (Action: ABP). The energy deposited should be estimated to provide input for the design of the static cooling (Action: RP to provide data to ABT). The need for vacuum pump should be clarified (Action: ABT to contact VCR).

  6. Installation and design of shielding: a tour of the PS tunnel should be organised to quantify the dimensions of the area in the SS15 region (Action: MEF and HE). A rough cost estimate should be provided as soon as possible (Action: HE - transport and concrete - MEF - drawings).
