Main items

Conclusions and actions from the meeting
  1. Data concerning blocks available at CERN, size, and costs were circulated for the optimisation studies of the shielding (thanks to Michael Lazzaroni).

  2. Stops position for the block supporting the dummy septum should be envisage to ease re-alignment in case of changes in SS15 (e.g., due to intervention on MMU14).

  3. A safety factor on the losses should be taken into account (from 1% - value currently used - to 2%).

  4. The longitudinal position of the dummy septum should be optimised for shielding in the downstream side (Action: RP).

  5. The shielding height should be optimised (2.40m is still acceptable for transport) (Action: RP).

  6. The characteristics of the dummy septum should be reviewed in the energy deposition studies (tank length and thickness, cross section of beam screen and MMU 15 vacuum chamber) (Action: RP, ATB, ABP).

  7. Energy deposition data will be used to estimate (assuming a steady state situation) temperature increase in various parts (Action: ABT).

  8. Based on density considerations, it will be determined whether Glidcop might be a suitable material for the dummy septum blade (Action: RP, ATB).

  9. Only in case the temperature increase will be worrying, then Glidcop might be considered for a new set of simulations of activation and energy deposition (Action: RP, ATB).

  10. After having optimised the shielding the situation of activation of MMU15 will be reviewed (Action: RP).

  11. Tracking of particles should be considered (Action: RP and ABP).
