Main items
Conclusions and actions from
the meeting |
-
Access to the PS tunnel could be
granted during the next technical stop (18-19
September): this might be a very good opportunity to
have a look at the details of SS15.
-
It will be important to have the
concrete shielding finalised in order to define whether
all blocks are available or some of them need to be
built (Action: TE-ABT).
-
The vacuum situation after the
installation of the dummy septum is being reviewed and
a presentation is scheduled for the next meeting
(Action: TE-VSC).
-
Evaluation of the impedance of the
septum should be finalised. In particular, it should be
assessed whether the proposed screen is really needed
(Action: ABP).
-
The cabling work needed for the
installation of the dummy septum is officially including
in the planning of LS1 activities.
-
Ray mentions that in the current
schedule of the PS activities, the installation of the
dummy septum is foreseen for January 2014. He also
mentions that that the dummy septum should be installed
only after MMU14 is put back in its position (MMU14 has
still old coils and will receive new PFWs during LS1,
while MMU15 has been already refurbished ).
-
The possible addition of
instrumentation has been discussed with R. Veness (BI).
Mike will continue discussions to have conclusions by
the next meeting (Action: TE-ABT).
-
The presentation by Cédric represents
the first iteration on the determination of the
efficiency of the dummy septum solution. The whole chain
of tools (Fluka and PTC) seems to work. The figures
presented will be carefully cross-checked and the new
results will be presented in the coming meetings. The
phase advance between SS15 and SS16 introduces an
unavoidable inefficiency in the shadowing process.
Tracking of the particles downstream of the septum 16
will be performed in order to assess whether hot spots
are to be expected.
-
Concerning the cross section of the
dummy septum blade, it seems there is no need to have a
shape different from a plain rectangle, but some checks
will be done with the numerical simulations, e.g., by
taking into account the actual cross section of the
magnetic septum blade in the Fluka simulations.
