Main items

Conclusions and actions from the meeting

  1. It is confirmed that the assumptions used for the vacuum estimates have been highly conservative (10% of hole surface, instead of 50%, bigger ferrite surface). Therefore, there will be no need for installing the NEG pump beneath the tank. However, it is decided to keep the flange on dummy septum (operational and spare) to anticipate possible issues.

  2. The list of interventions have been presented. The failure scenarios for the MTV will be finalised once the hardware will be better specified. These details will be used to evaluate the dose delivered to personnel and hence define the strategy for the interventions. The discussion triggered a number of comments and follow ups:

    • Simulations of the maximum temperature reached by the blade in case of troubles with the cooling system should be performed (Action: TE-ABT).

    • The design should be reviewed in order to: have 50% of hole surface and a reduction of the tank length (Action: TE-ABT).

    • The reduction in tank length might enable to increase the shielding thickness downstream of the dummy septum by up to 10 cm. Nevertheless, the improvement in the radiation levels seems to be marginal (the radiation length is about 40 cm).

    • The finalisation of the shielding is of the highest importance in order to have a clearer picture of the budget required and hence launch the BI activities. Organisation of this activity is needed (Action: ABP).

    • It will be really effective to have the same draughtsman for the dummy septum development as for the MTV implementation (Action: TE-ABT).
